I always liked photographs with a rough feeling to it. Photographing a lot of landscape myself, I grew a passion for sharpness in images. That is exactly the type of photography that Ansel Adams (1902-1984) used to make. He was not only an artist, but also an environmentalist, who specially made photographs in the Yosemite National Park. He developed a way of making pictures in a very high resolution, which ensured sharpness in his work. My favorite picture of his, has to be the Moonrise picture. You can just dream away by looking at it.

The Sartorialist has always been one of my favorite blogs, because this man just has an amazing eye for art! The way he photographs is just very inspiring! This is the man behind the camera!

Kate Winslet as Mildred Pierce

As you all may have noticed, I'm a huge fan of vintage fashion. It's strange, because I don't really buy vintage clothes, but I do love the style. Movies, I feel the same way. I love movies like 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', 'La dolce vita' and also the modern pictures, like 'Public enemies'. They all are stories of the 40's, 50's, or even the 60's. One of my favorite shows right now, has to be 'Mad Men'. I'm addicted to it, and I know, I am one of the last people to watch it.

What I believe will also be a good movie, is 'Mildred Pierce'. Kate Winslet will be playing the role of Mildred Pierce, a divorced mother, who tries to make a living by starting a restaurant. It is based on an old televisionshow of the fouties. I've seen a couple of outfits, that Kate will be wearing in the movie, and I am already excited about it! Take a look at some of the pictures.

Foam presents: Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin

Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, without a doubt my favorites among photographers. They make it look more like art, in stead of just pictures of pretty young girls. I see photography as a way of showing your imagination, and it doesn't have to be glamourous. They know exactly how to translate that into the pictures. And ofcourse, they're Holland's pride! That's why I'm proud to anounce an exhibition in Foam Amsterdam, where they show the works of many big photographers. We will have to wait a little bit before admiring these beautiful shots, because the exhibition will start on june the 24th. But don't worry, it will stay there long enough to be admired, till september the 15th.

Halloween, my treat

Ik ben helemaal weg van folklore, tradities, sprookjes, alles wat met je verbeelding te maken heeft. Kerst is echt mijn ding, maar het zou wel echt super zijn als Halloween echt zou aanslaan in Nederland. Als grote horror liefhebber, start ik liever een marathon aan horror-films op Halloween en neem ik om 12 uur s'nachts een Bloody Mary. En natuurlijk, met een pompoen naast de tv. Om jullie even in de stemming te brengen: Charlie Brown, echt een klassieker met een hoog nostalgisch gehalte voor mij! Schiet me ineens te binnen: Paul van Loon's kinderboek 'De Griezelbus'. Toch wel eng als je in groep 6 zit...... Geniet, mijn stervelingen!

I am so in love with everything that has to do with our imagination or traditions, such as Christmas and Halloween. Unfortunately Halloween isn't that popular in Holland, but I'm hoping that it will get bigger here. It would be so much fun dressing up and going to a party where everytbody does the same: looking scary. And as a big horror fan, I would organise an evening with only horror movies and drink a Bloody Mary at midnight. And ofcourse, with my pumpkin next to the tv. Just to get you all in the mood: a classic story by Charlie Brown, which reminds me of my childhood. This was really a popular story in Brazil around Halloween. Enjoy my mortals!

Elephant Parade in Amsterdam

Amsterdam wordt wat opgevrolijkt met deze olifanten, dankzij de Elephant Parade. De beelden zijn tot 31 oktober te bewonderen door heel Amsterdam. Hiermee wordt de aandacht gevraagd voor de Aziatische olifant, die op uitsterfen staat. Honderden beelden zijn verspreid door heel het centrum van Amsterdam, en het is werkelijk een genot voor de ogen. Ze zijn onder andere beschilderd door Jan des Bouvrie en Daryl van Wouw. Op 21 november worden ze geveild, de opbrengst gaat naar projecten ter bescherming van de Aziatische olifanten.

Amsterdam is getting a little more chearful, thanks to the Elephant Parade. More then 100 statues are placed all over the city and it's really a joy for the eyes! It is set up to make people aware of the fact that Azian elephants are becoming extinct. They are all painted by Dutch artists, such as decorator Jan des Bouvrie and designer Daryl van Wouw. You can admire these beauties till 31 of october, after that they will be saled by auction at november 21st. The profit will be given to organisations which protect the Azian elephant.

Kleurrijke expo in Parijs

Ga je binnenkort naar Parijs, dan is het zeker even de moeite waard om naar het Quai Branly Museum te gaan. Deze organiseert een expositie over wereldfotografie, waar 50 fotografen uit 32 verschillende landen aan hebben meegewerkt. Het laat de diversiteit zien van deze fotografen vanuit alle hoeken van de wereld. Zo ook van deze fotografe Daniela Edburg. Deze foto laat een vrouw zien die wegrent voor een roze wolk. Daarbij heeft zij zelf een suikerspin in haar handen. Zou het liefde zijn waar zij voor vlucht? Who knows! Dat is het mooie van fotografie! Deze expositie is te zien tot en met 22 november.
